After talking with Uddhava on the bank of the river Yamuna, Vidura went to Hardwar, at the source of the celestial Ganges, to meet Maitreya Muni. Vidura inquired, "O great sage, in this world all men engage in fruitive activities to attain happiness, but they find neither satiation nor mitigation of distress. On the contrary, they are only aggravated by such activities. Please, therefore, give us directions on how one should live for real happiness."
