"History will mark this period, how the Krishna consciousness movement changed the world."--Srila Prabhupada on an overnight train from Allahabad to Calcutta, January 1977.
This book is a small attempt at writing a page of that history. Whenever in the future historians attempt to write about how this movement was started, "My Prabhupada" may give them some clues.
Everyone in ISKCON has a connection with Srila Prabhupada. For some it included years of personal association. For others, especially grand disciples, they may have never met Srila Prabhupada personally. For all the relationship is unique.
In this book I would like to share "My Prabhupada"--those aspects of Srila Prabhupada that touched my heart and continue to inspire me in my services to ISKCON.
"My Prabhupada" contains six Back to Godhead written during Srila Prabhupada's 108th birth anniversary (2004-2005), over thirty Vyasa-puja offerings and six letters from Srila Prabhupada to me.
Naturally I am inclined to reminisce on my relationship and encounters with Srila Prabhuapda, and on the instructions he gave me. As the years have passed, some of those memories have been lost. Such is the influence of time, especially in this age of Kali. If you want to remember something, Prabhupada said, write it down. I'm kicking myself for not having done that. If I had kept account of every time I met him, there would be volumes for me to remember him with.
The process of compiling this book has increased my understanding of who Prabhupada is and what his position is--Founder-Acarya of ISKCON. I am further encouraged to increase my dedication to carrying out Srila Prabhupada's order and mission.
Srila Prabhupada dealt with each disciple in a way just perfect for that soul. The mellows of Srila Prabhupada's relationships with his different disciples bear close study. At the same time, most of Prabhupada's dealings or instructions with one disciple are not just for that individual. They are universal. Like Krishna's instructions to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita.
I hope that "My Prabhupada" will help readers remember and further establish their relationship with Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada captures us. We are sold out to his mission, with no other interest in life. We are cent percent his and he also lets us know that he is cent percent ours. Prabhupada's dealings with us are so personal, that each one of us feels that he is "My Prabhupada."
