About this item
Srila Prabhupada named the Mayapur temple Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir, "the rising moon of Mayapur." King Kulasekara prays "that intelligence concentrated on Lord Madhava" as "spotless, like the white glow of the moon." Sri Sri Radha Madhava are flanked by the eight principal gopis, or cowherd girls: Tungavidya, Citra, Campakalata, Lalita, Visakha, Indulekha, Rangadevi, and Sudevi.
The Caitanya Deity and the small Radha-Madhava Deities were the first Deities worshipped in Mayapur, starting in 1972. Their alter stood in a thatch-roofed hut that Srila Prabhupada stayed in.
Lord Nrsimha and Sri Prahlada were installed in 1986. The red-eyed, lionlike Lord appears ferocious to nondevotees, but He protects devotees and sometimes has directly reciprocated with their prayers.
