Krishna and Balaram along with the cowherd boys and their calves set out to the forest of Khandiravan. Just as they were resting on the banks of the river Yamuna, watching their calves relish the water, an unusual monster appeared suddenly behind them. The monster was so huge it resembled a huge crane [bird]. It appeared as if a huge mountain was struck by a thunderbolt.

This monster was none other than Bhakasura, the servant of King Kamsa, sent out to kill Lord Krishna...
