Krishna's cowherding pastimes were once disturbed by Lord Indra, the god of rain, so Krishna raised Govardhana Hill like an umbrella to shelter the cows and villagers from devastating rains. He held up the hill on His left finger for seven days.

Krishna moves about in the forest in the company of His friends, who vividly chant the glories of His magnificent deeds. He thus appears like the Personality of Godhead exhibiting His inexhaustible opulences, When the cows wander onto the mountainsides and Krishna calls out to them with the sound of His flute, the trees and creepers respond by becoming so luxuriant with fruits and flowers that seem to be manifesting Lord Visnu within their hearts.
